First Visit: Blitzen Break on West Hastings

Blitzen Break (website forthcoming at www.blitzenbreak.com, 322 West Hastings, 604 688-1655) is a hole in the wall German eatery specializing in German sausages. The atmosphere is pleasant and there is actually a counter and a few tables where you can sit inside. And not only do they have sausages, they also have muesli and other foods like pancakes for breakfast until 11a.m. as well as soup and other light meals and lunches.

The owner is a German from Hamburg who named the restaurant after the Blitzen Benz automobile which reached a maximum speed of 230 km/hour way back in 1909.

Today, I tried the Thueringer sausage with senf (hot German mustard) with sauerkraut on a bun. A filling, tasty, quick lunch for $3.75 (normally it's four bucks plus a quarter for the sauerkraut but it was on special today).

I'll be back! I left happy with memories of my times eating sausages in Friedrichshafen, Ravensburg, Konstanz and many other places when I lived in Germany.
