Pondok Indonesia

Pondok Indonesia is an unpretentious restaurant on Commercial which is tucked into the north west corner of Commercial and 12th.

We went there yesterday for the first time for Barb's birthday dinner and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We tried the Ricetable Special #6 for $30 which included: Tempe Bacem (marinated deep fried soy bean cake), Tahu Goreng (deep fried tofu), Ayam Goreng Kuning (fried chicken), Sayur Asam (vegetable sour soup) and Sambal & Lalap (delicious Indonesian style chilly shrimp paste served with raw vegetables) together with rice in a banana leaf.

We really liked the down home style cooking of this rice table and noticed that other diners who were enjoying more "normal" Indonesian food such as Lumpia (Indonesian spring rolls), and Rendang Sapi (spicy beef served with Indonesian herbs).

Barb tried the ginger tea (which had no tea!) flavoured with palm sugar which was well worth ordering again. Very gingery and sweet. We will definitely be back and have this tea again. Our bill before tip was approximately $35 which included our rice table, one ginger tea and one guava juice. Very reasonable!

After our next visit (which will be hopefully soon!) we will write a mini-review.

Until then, this restaurant is definitely worth trying!
