Betty's Steamed Salmon Steaks

3 salmon steaks (about 3/4" thick)
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. soy sauce
3 Tbsp. water
1 Tbsp. oil
1 1/2" piece ginger, cut into thin strips
3 green onions, cut into thin strips

Place salmon steaks in a microwave safe dish in a single layer. Sprinkle evenly with pepper and sugar.
Combine soy sauce, water and oil in a small bowl. Pour over salmon.
Sprinkle evenly with ginger.
Cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 3 minutes on full power (high).
Remove from microwave. If you don't have a turntable in your microwave, move salmon steaks around to even out cooking.
Sprinkle with green onion. Cover and microwave for 1 minute on 3/4 power (medium-high).
Test salmon for doneness. Microwave in 30 second increments until fish is cooked through and flakes easily.

Alternatively, you can steam this: Omit water and steam for 8 minutes before adding green onion. After adding green onion, steam for another 3 minutes.
